Style and the Express

Love this post from the Press Gazette. Some people will say these style points aren’t important and that none of this stuff matters as audiences get younger and news providers proliferate across the web.

But I’d say these kind of standards (the quality control that sub-editors do because reporters don’t) are what make us different – a USP, if you like.

While I’m all for standards, the thing I particularly love is the way that the comments invariably move into subbing the criticism!

Style points and language definitely matter, both online and offline. Online it’s even more important to be able to write in an informative and attention-grabbing manner, whilst also being able to balance the needs of search engine optimisation.
